Three Players Who Caught My Eye This Week

Another busy week of grassroots darts has produced three very different stories for this week's Q4QS Weekly Spotlight.

Sean Holley backed up an already formidable record with two more tournament victories. Joshua Russell combined another title with a superb run to the JDC Wales Regional Final and produced some of the best junior averages of the week. And Riley Milligan earns a first Spotlight appearance after another strong week on the JDC circuit, including an excellent performance at the South West Regional Finals.

As always, this isn't simply about finding the three biggest averages or choosing the week's biggest tournament winners. It's about performances, consistency and players whose progress or results have caught my eye over the previous seven days.

Sean Holley

Player Profile

Sean Holley's numbers underline just how consistently successful he has been.

Across 569 recorded matches, Holley has won 482, an outstanding 84.7% win rate. His 100 recorded tournament appearances have already produced 35 victories, eight runner-up finishes and another 24 semi-final or quarter-final appearances. His current form is also excellent at nine wins from his last ten matches.

The scoring numbers are equally impressive. Holley has an 81.63 overall match average, with that rising to 85.13 across his latest ten. His best recorded performance is 117.72, while his five highest averages all exceed 109.

There is plenty of quality among the opposition too. His recorded wins include Jack Drayton, Nathan Potter, Robbie Martin and Danny Lauby, with Holley averaging 100.99 in his victory over Martin.

This Week

Holley started the week by winning the Bank Holiday Comp at Wiltshire Darts House, coming through a tournament containing 113 recorded matches.

He beat Johnny Haines 5–1 in the final, recorded ten wins across the event and produced a 96.97 average along the way.

Later in the week came title number two.

At Bradmoor Farm's Friday Vault Break 3, Holley progressed through the knockout stages with averages of 90.18, 92.02, 88.46 and 84.03 before producing 94.92 in the final to beat Adam Mould 3–2.

That gives Holley two tournament victories in the week, and his profile now shows 35 recorded titles from 100 events.

Another hugely consistent week from a player who continues to make winning tournaments look remarkably routine.

Joshua Russell

Player Profile

Joshua Russell already has an enormous amount of competitive experience recorded in the Q4QS database.

His 795 matches have produced 646 victories, giving him an 81.3% win rate across 133 events. Even more strikingly, Russell has already recorded 42 tournament wins, as well as 18 runner-up finishes and 25 semi-finals. His latest form stands at nine wins from ten.

Russell's overall match average is 73.86, but his recent numbers are considerably higher: 89.21 across his last five matches and 86.37 across his last ten.

And his best-ever Q4QS recorded average is now 103.66 — a figure he has produced twice.

This Week

Russell began the week with another tournament victory, winning Clive Arms Vault Break 3. He recorded seven wins and defeated Edward Manley in the final.

There was more success at Cardiff County Cons later in the week. Russell beat Joe Hoffman with a 93.94 average in the quarter-final, Josef Howlett 3–0 in the semi-final and Edward Manley 3–0 in the final, averaging 85.08.

Then came Friday's JDC Volts Wales Series 7 Regional Finals.

Russell opened the knockout stages with successive 4–0 wins, averaging 95.43 against Archie Lane, 87.13 against Dylan Person and then producing a huge 103.66 against Rhodri Phillips in the quarter-final. He followed that with a 4–2 semi-final victory over James Prettyjohn before Jack Powell edged the final 4–3.

It meant Russell finished the week with two tournament victories and a JDC Regional Final, while also producing one of the week's outstanding averages.

Riley Milligan

Player Profile

Riley Milligan's inclusion gives this week's Spotlight another developing-player story.

Milligan already has 486 recorded matches, winning 370 for an impressive 76.1% win rate. Across 98 events, that has produced 16 tournament wins, 13 runner-up finishes, 13 semi-finals and 14 quarter-finals.

His overall match average stands at 69.93, but there is a spectacular number at the top of his record: a 125.25, produced during a JDC Volts event in June. He has also broken the 100 mark on three other occasions.

His best wins include an 88.41 average in a 3–0 victory over Logan Neil Symons, while he has also beaten Henry Cooper and Robbie Long.

This Week

Milligan's week began on the JDC England South Foundation Tour, where he reached the last 16 of Event 12 after victories over Aiden Styler and Jayden Moss.

But the performance that really caught my attention came at Friday's JDC Volts Southwest Series 7 Regional Finals.

Milligan began with a convincing 4–0 victory over Frankie Lynch, averaging 74.22.

He then produced his best performance of the week against Tai Anderson. Milligan averaged an excellent 84.33, but was edged out 4–3 in a close last-16 contest.

Interestingly, that 84.33 was the highest recorded average anywhere in the South West Regional Finals, despite Milligan not ultimately taking the title.

That is exactly the type of performance this feature is intended to recognise. The winner isn't always the only player whose week deserves attention, and Milligan's scoring at a regional final earns him his place alongside Holley and Russell this time. 

Q4QS Weekly Spotlight: Three Players Who Caught My Eye This Week

 

Another seven days of grassroots darts produced plenty of candidates for the Weekly Spotlight, but this week’s final three stood out for very different reasons.

Louis Melville combined one of the week’s most important victories with another two tournament wins and a further final. Shaun Vernall continued an extraordinary run of consistency, winning three events and finishing the week by taking the £800 Gloucester Open. And Cody Sheppard produced an excellent sequence of results at Out Out Bar, culminating in a convincing Premier League Qualification victory.

As always, this isn’t simply about picking the three highest averages or the biggest names. It’s about the players whose performances, consistency or individual stories caught my eye over the previous seven days.

Louis Melville

Player Profile

Louis Melville has put together an outstanding record in the Q4QS database.

Across 243 recorded matches, Melville has won 215, giving him an excellent 88.5% win rate. From only 38 recorded events, he has already collected 22 tournament victories, alongside three runner-up finishes, four semi-finals and five quarter-finals.

His overall match average stands at 77.96, but his peak numbers show considerably more. His best recorded average is 111.33, with further performances of 107.36 and three separate 103.66 averages among his top five.

There is also plenty of quality in the opposition he has beaten. His best-rated recorded win is now against Dean Reynolds, while his record also includes several victories over Timothy Jones and a win over Creed Jenkins.

This Week

Melville began the week by winning the MODUS Super Series South Wales Regional Qualifier at Wattsville National Club, defeating Dean Reynolds 6–5 in the final.

That victory now also appears as the highest-rated win in his player profile, with Melville averaging 80.71 in the deciding match against Reynolds.

He followed it with another title at Olivers Sports Bar, winning the Vault 19 Open Warm Up. Melville produced two 91.09 averages during that tournament before beating Richie Limbert 3–1 in the final.

Then came another victory at the same venue in Friday’s ADC Open Ranking event.

This was arguably his best scoring performance of the week. Melville recorded 96.97, 92.02, 91.09 and 90.18 averages and completed the title with a 3–0 final victory over Liam Hughes.

Even then, the week wasn’t over. On Saturday he reached another final, defeating Ieuan Evans and Harry Morris in the knockout stages before losing 3–1 to Finley Bennett.

Three titles, including a MODUS regional qualifier, plus another final made Melville impossible to leave out this week.

Shaun Vernall

Player Profile

Shaun Vernall continues to build one of the most impressive grassroots records in the database.

He has played 762 recorded matches, winning 636 of them for an 83.5% win rate across 117 events. Those appearances have produced 39 tournament victories, 22 runner-up finishes and another 43 quarter-final or semi-final appearances.

His overall match average stands at 76.92, while his last ten currently average 84.22. His ceiling is enormous: Vernall’s best recorded average is 128.71, with further peaks of 120.24, 112.63 and two 107.36 performances.

His list of significant victories includes Josh McCarthy, Neil Wild and Joe Quiney — with one win over Wild accompanied by a 98.40 average.

This Week

Vernall started his winning run at Widden Rugby Club, where he took the title after eight victories and produced a 93.94 average during the event.

He then added another tournament victory at Faringdon, once again defeating Rich Griffee in the final.

But the biggest performance was saved until Saturday.

The Gloucester Open featured 288 recorded matches, and Vernall came through the event with 20 victories recorded across the day before defeating Declan Cox 5–1 in the final.

His player profile gives an even clearer picture of the knockout run. Vernall beat James Mann and Archie McChristie with consecutive 96.97 averages, defeated Joe Bagguley 4–1 in the semi-final and then completed the title with a 5–1 victory over Cox.

It also left his latest recorded form at a perfect 10 wins from 10.

Vernall has featured before, but this series isn't about avoiding repeat names for the sake of it. Three titles in a week, capped by the Gloucester Open, demanded another appearance.

Cody Sheppard

Player Profile

Cody Sheppard brings a completely different story to this week’s three.

His profile already contains a substantial 605 recorded matches, with 367 victories and a 60.7% win rate across 132 events. He has recorded 10 tournament victories, alongside 25 runner-up finishes, 15 semi-finals and 33 quarter-finals.

His overall match average is 55.48, but that number hides some very eye-catching peaks.

Sheppard’s best recorded average is a remarkable 112.78, while he has also produced a 100.20 and two 88.41 performances.

His record also contains wins against much higher-rated opposition, headed by Alec Small and Alfie O’Brien.

This Week

Sheppard’s week was built around a series of events at Out Out Bar.

He first won the NDC Open, beating Charlie Morgan 4–2 in the final.

There were then two further Premier League Qualification runs. On Wednesday he reached the final after beating Mason White and Archie Bourne, before Cody Vodden edged him 3–2.

Two days later, Sheppard turned that result around emphatically.

He beat Kenzie Thomas 5–3 in the semi-final and then defeated Vodden 6–1 in the final, averaging 67.75 to complete the tournament victory.

That was particularly notable after several close battles between the pair during the week, and it gave Sheppard a second tournament victory from a run that also contained multiple finals.

For a player still developing, that sort of repeated exposure to latter-stage matches can be every bit as interesting as one isolated big average.

Two tournament victories, multiple finals and a 6–1 win to finish the week earns Cody Sheppard his place in the Weekly Spotlight.

Q4QS Weekly Spotlight: Three Players Who Caught My Eye This Week (weekending 23rd August 2026)

Another week of grassroots darts, and again the difficult part wasn't finding three players worth talking about — it was narrowing the list down.

This week's final three have arrived here in very different ways.

Mat Caste simply kept winning, collecting three titles during the week and producing one of the best averages anywhere in the results. Henry Cooper delivered when the stakes were considerably higher, winning the South West MODUS Super Series regional qualifier. And Logun Godbeer finished the week in outstanding fashion, winning two events on consecutive days and extending his latest run to ten straight victories.

As always, this feature isn't intended to be a simple list of the highest averages or biggest names. These are three performances and stories that caught my eye over the last seven days.

Mat Caste

Player Profile

Mat Caste has built an enormous body of work during 2026.

His Q4QS database now contains 712 matches, of which he has won 591, giving him an excellent 83% win rate across 112 recorded events. Those appearances have produced 32 tournament victories, along with 23 runner-up finishes and 21 semi-finals.

His overall match average of 77.34 perhaps doesn't immediately reveal how high his ceiling can be. Caste has a best recorded average of 120.24, while his top five also contain four separate performances of 103 or better.

He's also shown that level against strong opposition. His recorded victories include Dylan Dowling and Nunjo Dewaele on the Challenge Tour, while he has beaten Danny Lauby on several occasions, including a 3–0 victory accompanied by a 100.20 average.

This Week

This was a week when Caste seemed to be permanently around the business end of tournaments.

It began at The Carlton House Club in Olney, where he collected the title after eight victories. His best performances during the event included averages of 93.94, 88.41 and 86.94.

Two days later came the week's headline performance.

At Windmill Hill Golf Centre, Caste produced a huge 112.69 average, followed later by 100.63 in his semi-final against Mark Boardman. He then defeated Adam King 3–0 in the final to take another title.

Thursday brought another victory at Hotshots Sports Bar in Bletchley. Caste beat Bailey Martin and Charlie Collins before overcoming Addison Hefferon 3–1 in the final with an 85.85 average.

And even after three tournament victories, his week wasn't finished.

Caste reached the quarter-finals of the MODUS Super Series South East & London Regional Qualifier, beating Stuart Woodmore and Gary Stafford before narrowly losing 6–5 to eventual finalist Connor Levett.

Three titles plus a MODUS regional quarter-final would be an exceptional week by any measure. Add a 112.69 average into the equation and Caste was impossible to overlook.

Henry Cooper

Player Profile

Henry Cooper's numbers are extraordinary.

Across 377 recorded matches, Cooper has won 341, producing a 90.5% career win rate within the Q4QS database. From 55 events he has already recorded 33 tournament victories, meaning he has won well over half of all the events in which he has appeared.

The scoring figures are equally impressive.

Cooper's overall match average stands at 84.49, while his last ten matches average a remarkable 94.25. His best recorded performance is 115.62, with further peaks of 111.33 and two separate 109.98 averages.

He also arrived at the end of this week's data with a perfect 10 wins from his last ten recorded matches.

This Week

Cooper only needed one tournament to earn his place in this week's feature.

And it was an important one.

At St Breward AFC & Social Club, Cooper won the ADC South West Series 18 MODUS Super Series Qualifier.

He produced a 92.02 average in a 6–0 victory over Jamie Kay, before defeating Ricky King 6–2 in the final with a 90.28 average. Cooper finished the event with four victories and the two highest averages recorded by any player in the tournament.

It also continued a remarkable period of form. Cooper's profile shows a last-five average of 97.53 and last-ten figure of 94.25, numbers which underline just how strongly he has been playing recently.

Some selections in this series come from winning several events in a week.

This one comes from winning the event that mattered.

Logun Godbeer

Player Profile

Logun Godbeer's database tells a slightly different story from the other two.

He has already accumulated a remarkable 815 recorded matches, winning 573 of them for a 70.3% win rate across 132 events. Those tournaments have yielded 22 victories, 15 runner-up finishes and 36 semi-finals.

His overall average is 63.50, but there are plenty of indications of a significantly higher ceiling. Godbeer has produced three recorded 93.94 averages, while he also hit 91.09 earlier this week at Portishead.

Perhaps most interestingly, his record already includes wins over considerably higher-rated opposition, including Jimmy Bristow, Robbie Long, Luke Harding and Rich Griffee.

This Week

Godbeer saved his best results for the end of the week.

On Friday at Portishead Workmens Darts, he came through the open tournament with eight victories.

The knockout stages included a 3–0 win over Luke Adams with an 80.52 average, followed by a 3–1 semi-final victory over Steve Boundy. Godbeer then defeated Ellie Harwood 4–1 in the final to take the title.

Less than 24 hours later, he did it again.

This time it was the JDC Volts at Highbridge Social Club.

Godbeer defeated Alfie Coles, George Miller, Ben Miller and Woody Littlewood before another win over Miller in the semi-final. A 3–1 victory over Tai Anderson completed his second tournament triumph in two days.

Those results also mean his current recorded form reads a perfect 10 wins from his last ten matches.

Two different events. Two consecutive days. Two titles.

That's a pretty good way to finish a week — and a very good reason for Logun Godbeer to make his first appearance in the Weekly Spotlight.

Q4QS Weekly Spotlight: Three Players Who Caught My Eye This Week (week ending 16rh August 2026)

 

Another seven days of grassroots darts has produced plenty of candidates for the Q4QS Weekly Spotlight, but this week's final three all caught my eye for very different reasons.

For Pete Hughes, it was the sheer volume of success. Four tournament victories in five days made him almost impossible to leave out. Ricky King combined three titles with some exceptional scoring, including averages north of 100. And Owen Bates saved one of the week's biggest individual performances for Saturday, coming through a large field to win the Ilfracombe Summer Open.

As always, this isn't designed simply to reproduce the week's results or pick the three highest averages. I'm looking for the players whose performances and stories genuinely stood out to me over the previous seven days.

Pete Hughes

Player Profile

There isn't much Pete Hughes hasn't experienced on the grassroots circuit, and the sheer scale of his 2026 record illustrates just how regularly he competes.

Across 818 recorded matches, Hughes has won 698, giving him an outstanding 85.3% win rate from 124 events. Even more impressively, those appearances have already produced 51 tournament victories, alongside 11 runner-up finishes and 26 semi-finals.

His overall match average sits at 78.50, while his scoring ceiling is considerably higher. His best recorded performance is a remarkable 118.66, and his top five also contain averages of 115.62, 112.73 and 111.33.

Hughes has also consistently proved capable of beating strong opposition. His database includes five recorded victories over Joe Quiney, including a 6–0 win while averaging 92.02 and another 3–0 success with a 93.94.

This Week

Even by Hughes' standards, this was some week.

It began on Monday at The Bengeworth in Evesham, where Hughes collected the title after seven victories, beating Matt Metrovich in the final. His run included two 93.94 averages.

Twenty-four hours later he did it again.

At Bretforton Sports Club, Hughes won eight matches to take another Vault 18 title and stepped the scoring up considerably. He produced 103.66, 100.78 and 98.48 during the event before defeating Dave Honey 3–0 in the final.

Thursday brought title number three at Cue Corner in Worcester. Hughes recorded seven wins, including a 91.09 average, before beating Antony Butler 3–0 in the final.

And on Friday, it was back to Bengeworth.

Victories over George Nurdin and Mitchell Leeming took him into another final, where he edged Richard Coombes 3–2 to complete an extraordinary fourth tournament victory of the week.

Four titles in five days is a remarkable return, and made Hughes one of the simplest Weekly Spotlight selections I've had to make so far.

Ricky King

Player Profile

Ricky King's database sample isn't as large as Hughes', but what he's done with it is remarkable.

King has won 65 of 72 recorded matches, an exceptional 90.3% win rate, and has already converted nine of his 12 recorded tournament appearances into victories. He also enters the end of this week with a perfect 10–0 record across his last ten matches.

His overall average is 81.35, but again the headline numbers show a much higher ceiling. King has a best recorded average of 111.33, while his five best include 107.36, 104.75, 103.66 and 96.97.

He has also demonstrated that ability away from the local Vault circuit. At the Isle of Man Festival he defeated players including Pat Scurfield, Connor Bowler and Graham Jenkins, with the Bowler victory coming alongside a 104.75 average.

This Week

King's week began with victory at Swanage RBL.

He produced 103.66 against David Elm, added a 93.94 against Jordan Cluskey and then averaged 90.18 in a 3–0 final victory over Alfie Reeves.

Then came Thursday at The Kings Arms in Wallisdown, where King went even bigger.

A 107.36 average against William Young was the standout number of another title-winning run. King won eight matches during the event before defeating Tom Crocker 3–0 in the final.

Twenty-four hours later he completed the hat-trick at Sturminster Football Club.

King defeated Christopher Roberts with a 93.94 average, averaged 93.52 against Jordan Cluskey in the semi-final and then beat Callum Harrison 3–0 to take another title.

That's three titles across the week, accompanied by 107.36, 103.66, 93.94 and 93.52 performances.

For a player already winning more than 90% of his recorded matches, this was another emphatic demonstration of just how difficult Ricky King is proving to beat.

Owen Bates

Player Profile

Owen Bates is a very different selection from the other two.

He is already competing regularly within the professional system, with his 2026 record including Players Championship, Development Tour, European Tour qualifier and other PDC appearances.

Across 185 recorded matches, Bates has won 124, giving him a 67% win rate against what is often considerably stronger opposition than the typical grassroots field. His overall match average is an excellent 87.79, rising to a Q4QS average of 88.96.

His best recorded average is 104.50 against Stephen Burton at Players Championship 5, while he has also produced 104.01 on the Development Tour and averages above 101 against Bradley Brooks and Madars Razma.

The level of his opposition is perhaps even more revealing. Bates has beaten William O'Connor, Cameron Menzies, Adam Gawlas and Beau Greaves, while his losses include matches against Chris Dobey and Kevin Doets.

This Week

Unlike Hughes and King, Bates didn't need a collection of tournament victories to catch my eye.

He needed one very good Saturday.

The Ilfracombe Summer Open contained 127 recorded matches, and Bates came through 11 matches to lift the title.

His knockout run became increasingly impressive as the tournament progressed.

Bates averaged 99.62 to beat Clint Parkhouse, 96.97 in a 4–0 quarter-final victory over Mathew Hern and 97.62 while defeating Andy Steed 4–1 in the semi-final. He then completed the job with a 5–2 victory over Nigel Gullon.

The result also extended Bates' current recorded form to ten consecutive victories.

It's a slightly different Weekly Spotlight story, but that's exactly why I've included him. A big field, 11 victories, three averages between 96 and 100 in the decisive stages and a tournament title made the Ilfracombe run one of the standout individual performances anywhere in this week's results.

Three Players Who Caught My Eye This Week

Another busy seven days of grassroots darts has produced plenty of performances worthy of attention, but this week's three selections stood out for very different reasons.

Shaun Vernall enjoyed a remarkable run of tournament success across the South West, Kieran Spurdle put together one of the most consistent weeks on the Somerset circuit, while Llew Bevan combined multiple titles with some genuinely outstanding scoring.

As always, this isn't simply a list of the week's highest averages. The idea is to highlight players whose overall performances caught my eye — whether through winning, consistency, improvement or producing something exceptional when it mattered.

Here are this week's three.

Shaun Vernall

Player Profile

Shaun Vernall's record shows just how consistently he has performed across the grassroots circuit. Across 671 recorded matches, Vernall has collected 554 victories, an excellent 82.6% win rate, while competing in more than 100 events. His record includes 30 tournament victories, another 21 runner-up finishes and 15 semi-finals.

His overall average of 77.03 is backed up by a virtually identical Q4QS average of 77.11, suggesting a player whose level remains remarkably stable across a very large sample of matches. He has also shown a much higher ceiling, with a best recorded average of 128.71 and several other performances well above the 100 mark.

Vernall has also beaten some significant opposition, including Josh McCarthy, Neil Wild, Ashton Brown and Joe Quiney, demonstrating that his success is not confined to smaller local fields.

This Week

Few players could match Shaun Vernall for sheer volume of success this week.

He won at Matson Rugby Club in Gloucester, where eight match victories took him to the Vault 18 title, and also collected another Sunday title at The Nags Head in Cinderford.

The winning continued at Evesham, where Vernall produced one of his biggest individual performances of the week — a superb 107.36 average — before another title followed at Saintbridge Sports Club in Gloucester on Friday. There he defeated Andy Hammond and Will Jackson before edging Joe Bagguley 3–2 in the final.

Vernall then reached the quarter-finals of the Doc Neale Memorial, defeating Jamie Harvey, Paul Akers and Leslie Higgs before losing 5–3 to eventual finalist Harry Williams while still averaging 84.07.

It wasn't one spectacular night that earned Vernall his place this week — it was the relentless frequency with which his name kept appearing near the top of the results.

Kieran Spurdle

Player Profile

Kieran Spurdle has compiled an impressive record across the South West circuit, winning 127 of his 167 recorded matches for a 76% win rate. His 30 events have already produced seven titles, six runner-up finishes and five semi-finals.

Spurdle's overall average currently stands at 72.56, with a Q4QS average of 73.06 and a best recorded performance of 91.09. His results also show experience beyond the local circuit, including victories over Dylan Dowling at Q School, Gary Jackson at the UKDA National Finals and Frankie Ansell on another Q School run.

Recent form is particularly strong, with nine wins from his last ten recorded matches.

This Week

Spurdle's week was a perfect example of why this feature isn't simply about picking somebody who happened to win on Saturday.

He started by taking the Vault 18 title at The Choughs Hotel in Chard, beating Daren Field 3–0 in the final with an 88.41 average.

Two days later he was back at the business end of another tournament at the Pawlett Pavilion Grand Prix. Spurdle produced a 91.09 average against Chris Tuck, followed by victories over Dan Saunders and James Harland, before eventually finishing runner-up to Craig Difford.

Then came Friday at Pegasus 68 in Taunton.

Spurdle again reached the final, beating Dave Dawson and Nigel Wills before defeating Leighton Cox 3–1 to collect another title.

So his week reads: winner, finalist, winner.

That's exactly the sort of sustained performance that deserves a Weekly Spotlight.

Llew Bevan

Player Profile

Llew Bevan's database sample is considerably smaller than the other two, but the numbers are exceptional.

Across 71 recorded matches, Bevan has won 62 for an 87.3% win rate, while already collecting five tournament victories from 15 events.

Perhaps even more striking is his scoring level. Bevan carries an 88.16 overall average and 88.32 Q4QS average, with his last ten matches averaging 90.56. His best recorded performance now stands at a huge 115.62.

His results against quality opposition add further context. Bevan has recorded victories over Lewis Pride, Graham Usher, Danny Trueman and Archie Self, while also competing at Q School and on the Challenge Tour.

This Week

Bevan began his week by winning the Vault 18 event at Glanyrafon Arms in Llandysul.

His run included averages of 91.09, 104.86 and 95.94, with the latter coming in a convincing 3–0 final victory over Sion Thomas.

He followed that with another title at Towy Sports Bar in Carmarthen, beating Gareth Earles and Kelvin O'Keefe before completing the tournament with a 3–0 final victory.

But Saturday provided the week's headline performance.

At Terry Griffiths Matchroom in Llanelli, Bevan produced a stunning 115.62 average against Finlay Andrews. He later added 91.09 against Ceri Cook, 100.20 against Adrian Davies and 98.02 against Oscar Bourne, before defeating Justin Hughes 3–0 in the final.

Three titles would have been enough to make Bevan a serious contender for this feature.

Three titles accompanied by 104, 100 and 115 averages make his selection virtually unavoidable.

Special Mention – Winmau Tour Championship Weekend (Saturday)

The Weekly Spotlight selections have deliberately been kept separate from the ADC and WADC Winmau Tour Championship weekend at Bradmoor Farm, simply because those major events could easily dominate the feature on their own.

There were plenty of performances deserving recognition, including Ashley Coleman winning ADC Event 10 after eight victories and Gemma Hayter taking WADC Event 5, beating Vicky Pruim 5–4 in the final and producing a 95.43 average during her run.

Three Players Who Caught My Eye This Week

Every week, hundreds of matches are played across the Q4QS coverage area, producing countless stories that deserve to be told. While tournament winners often grab the headlines, they're not always the only players making an impression. Sometimes it's a player who strings together deep runs across multiple events, someone who produces exceptional averages against strong opposition, or someone who simply finds another level when it matters most.

That's what Q4QS Weekly Spotlight is all about.

Each weekend I'll be selecting three players whose performances genuinely caught my eye over the previous seven days. Some weeks they'll be established names continuing their excellent form, while other weeks they'll be rising stars announcing themselves with a breakthrough performance. The common theme is that every selection has earned their place through what they've achieved during the week.

This week's spotlight falls on three players who impressed in very different ways. Ashton Brown enjoyed a remarkable Saturday that included a major tournament victory and a memorable nine-dart leg, Spencer Edwards demonstrated why consistency remains one of the most valuable qualities in darts, while Dan Nicholls capped a sensational week by collecting two titles in a single day.

Ashton Brown

Player Profile

Ashton Brown has established himself as one of the South West's leading performers, combining success on the regional circuit with impressive results against elite opposition. His Q4QS statistics paint the picture of a player who consistently performs at a high level, winning 313 of his 376 recorded matches for an outstanding 83.2% win rate. His overall match average sits just below 80, while a Q4QS average of 80.78 underlines the consistency that has made him one of the area's most respected competitors.

Brown has already collected 25 tournament titles during the period covered by the database, alongside a further three runner-up finishes and numerous deep runs. His recent form has been particularly eye-catching, arriving into this week on a 10-match winning streak, while averaging over 92 across his last ten recorded matches.

What perhaps stands out most is the calibre of opposition he has defeated. Victories over players such as Derek Coulson, Nathan Potter, Adam Gawlas and Henry Coates demonstrate that Brown is equally capable of producing on the PDC Development and Challenge Tours as he is on the local circuit.

This Week

If there was one player who demanded a place in this week's spotlight, it was Ashton Brown.

His headline achievement came at the Sartan Club £300 Summer Open, where he produced a superb unbeaten run to lift the title. Brown defeated Gary Greenslade, Connor Davies, Zach Quinn and twice overcame John Brown on his way to the trophy, producing a string of outstanding performances throughout the day.

The numbers alone tell an impressive story. Brown fired in averages of 107.36, 100.77, 95.94 and 95.43, before completing the job with an 86.82 average in the final. Few players anywhere in the Q4QS network enjoyed a more consistently high-scoring day.

As if lifting one of the week's biggest titles wasn't enough, Brown also added another memorable moment by producing a nine-dart leg during the week—an achievement that every darts player dreams of and one that underlined just how high his level has been.

Taken together, it was a week that showcased everything Ashton Brown is capable of: scoring power, consistency, tournament-winning mentality and moments of genuine brilliance.

Spencer Edwards

Player Profile

Few players are as active on the Welsh circuit as Spencer Edwards, and few are rewarded for that commitment as regularly. Across 684 recorded matches, Edwards has compiled 532 victories, giving him a superb 77.8% win rate while collecting 23 tournament titles, 21 runner-up finishes and 33 semi-final appearances.

His best average of 103.66 proves he possesses the ability to produce exceptional darts, but perhaps his greatest strength is consistency. Week after week Edwards puts himself into contention, regularly appearing in the latter stages of events through a combination of steady scoring and experience.

His recent form suggests he is enjoying one of his strongest spells of the season, having won nine of his last ten matches while steadily increasing his scoring levels over recent weeks.

This Week

While others may have grabbed the biggest headlines, Spencer Edwards produced the sort of week that every player strives for—one built on consistency.

Rather than relying on one standout evening, Edwards kept appearing deep into tournaments throughout the week. He reached the latter stages of the Clwb Emrys Circuit at The Baden Porth, defeating Craig Davies and Owen Alford before eventually falling just short of another final.

He then went one better on Saturday at Emrys Darts, producing another impressive run that included victories over Riley Sadd, George Humphreys, Harrison Graves and Owen Chant before defeating Josh Williams 3–0 in the final with a 77.74 average.

Across the week Edwards once again demonstrated why he remains such a dangerous opponent. He didn't just win one event—he repeatedly placed himself in contention, finishing the week with another title and reinforcing his reputation as one of the Welsh circuit's most reliable performers.

For players chasing long-term success, consistency is every bit as valuable as spectacular averages, and Spencer Edwards delivered exactly that throughout the week.

Dan Nicholls

Player Profile

Dan Nicholls has established himself as one of the most formidable players on the Black Country circuit, and his statistics underline exactly why. Across 383 recorded matches, Nicholls has won an incredible 357, giving him a remarkable 93.2% win rate. Add in 38 tournament victories from just 55 events and it's clear he has developed a habit of turning strong performances into silverware.

His scoring power is equally impressive. An overall average of 83.32, a best recorded average of 120.24, and recent averages of 90.70 across his last five matches and 85.77 across his last ten show a player operating at an exceptionally high level.

Nicholls has also proved himself against quality opposition. Wins over Lewis Cook, Neil Wild, Harrison Leigh and Ashley Coleman demonstrate he is more than capable of competing with some of the strongest players in the Q4QS database, while his current 10-match winning streak reflects the confidence he is carrying into every tournament.

This Week

Dan Nicholls produced one of the most dominant individual days of the week, collecting two tournament titles at Bostin Darts and showing exactly why he remains one of the area's most feared competitors.

He began by winning the 301 DIDO Round Robin, defeating Shaun Hercules 3–0 in the final after another commanding display. Along the way he recorded the day's five highest averages, peaking at 79.68 in the final while also finishing with eight match victories.

If that wasn't enough, Nicholls immediately followed it by claiming the Bostin Darts Champion of Champions title. His route to the trophy included victories over Kyle "Baggies" Edwards, Jack O'Donnell, Phill Jones, Grant Jackson and Shaun Betts before defeating Grant Jackson again in the final. During that run he produced averages of 107.36, 100.20, 92.02 and 88.41, underlining the quality of his scoring throughout the day.

Winning one tournament is always an achievement. Winning two titles in the same day, while producing ton-plus averages and extending an already impressive winning streak, made Dan Nicholls one of the easiest selections for this week's Q4QS Weekly Spotlight.

Q4QS Weekly Spotlight – Three Players Who Caught My Eye (week ending 24th July)

 

Every week there are hundreds of matches taking place across the Q4QS coverage area. While tournament winners naturally grab the headlines, they aren't always the only players producing performances worthy of recognition.

Each weekend I'll be selecting three players who have genuinely caught my eye over the previous seven days. Sometimes they'll have won titles, sometimes they'll have produced exceptional averages, and sometimes they'll simply have shown the sort of form that suggests bigger things are on the horizon.

This week's trio all impressed for different reasons. Sam Chance enjoyed a remarkable week by lifting two Vault 18 titles, Sion Thomas continued his outstanding season with another dominant display in South Wales, while Jamie Kay showed the quality needed to compete on the national stage at the UKDA National Finals.

Here are this week's Q4QS Weekly Spotlight selections.

Sam Chance

Player Profile

Sam Chance has been quietly putting together an excellent 2026 season and is establishing himself as one of the most consistent performers on the North Devon circuit. Across 66 recorded matches he has won 49, giving him an impressive 74.2% win rate, while reaching a healthy 67.2 match average.

Two tournament victories and a further three runner-up finishes show that Chance is regularly challenging for titles rather than simply collecting match wins. His recent form has been particularly strong, with nine wins from his last ten matches, and his best performance to date is an excellent 85.89 average.

Consistency is another strength. His overall average and Q4QS average are virtually identical, suggesting he produces his level week after week rather than relying on occasional standout displays. His current nemesis appears to be Daniel Donovan, against whom he has struggled, but elsewhere his record speaks for itself.

This Week

Sam Chance was impossible to ignore this week after collecting two Vault 18 tournament titles in the space of just three days.

His first success came on 22 July at The Wellington Arms, where he produced arguably his performance of the season. After defeating Neil Ridd and Mathew Hern in the knockout stages, he finished by overcoming Andy Steed 3–1 in the final, averaging an outstanding 85.04. Earlier in the same event he also produced an even higher 85.89 average against Mark Gover.

Not content with one title, Chance returned on 24 July to win another Vault 18 event. His route to the title included victories over Jack Kemp, Neil Ridd, Oscar Yeaman and Matt Lambert before completing a convincing 3–0 victory over Kian Gover in the final, averaging 72.73 in the deciding match.

Winning two events in one week is impressive in itself, but doing so while producing multiple 70+ averages and an 85 average in a final makes this one of the standout weeks by any player in the Q4QS results.

Why he caught my eye

• 🏆 Two Vault 18 titles in the same week.
• 🔥 9 wins from his last 10 matches.
• 🎯 85.04 average in a tournament final.

Sion Thomas

Player Profile

Sion Thomas has established himself as one of the leading players on the South Wales circuit during 2026. With 153 victories from 174 matches, he boasts an outstanding 87.9% win rate, while his 77.99 overall average demonstrates that his success is built on consistently high-quality darts rather than simply winning close matches.

His season record speaks for itself. Thomas has already claimed 13 tournament titles, reached nine further finals, and arrives in exceptional form having won his last ten matches. His scoring power is equally impressive, highlighted by a remarkable 111.33 match average, while multiple ton-plus performances underline the level he is capable of producing when at his best.

Although his current Q4QS card places him just outside the top 1,000, the underlying numbers suggest a player capable of competing with the strongest fields. Victories over highly-rated opponents such as Lee Evans, Stephen Cake and Mike Huntley demonstrate that Thomas is comfortable performing against quality opposition.

This Week

If there was any doubt about Sion Thomas's current form, this week removed it.

Thomas produced a flawless run to the Vault 18 title at Cambrian Sports Bar in Llanelli, winning every match on his route to the trophy. His campaign began with a stunning 103.66 average against Jack Tompsett before following it with a 100.20 average against Corey Campbell, immediately setting the tone for the evening.

The standard never dropped. Further victories over Darren Bourne, Oscar Bourne, Dylan Holborn, Stephen Bowen and Bobby Short booked his place in the final, where he completed the job with a convincing 3–0 victory over George Jones.

Looking beyond the tournament itself, Thomas has now put together ten consecutive victories, averaging almost 86 across his last ten matches and almost 87 across his last five. That combination of winning and sustained scoring power makes him one of the form players in the Q4QS database.

Jamie Kay

Jamie Kay has quietly developed into one of the South West's most accomplished players, combining success on the local ADC circuit with impressive performances on the national stage. His statistics underline that consistency, with 46 wins from 66 matches, a 69.7% win rate and an excellent 83.0 overall average.

An average above 82 across an entire season is no accident, and Kay has already shown he can mix it with high-quality opposition. His season includes a tournament victory, multiple quarter-final and semi-final appearances, and a best average of 103.66, demonstrating the scoring power needed to trouble top-class players.

Perhaps most impressive is the calibre of players he has defeated. Victories over established names such as Callum Goffin, John Henderson, Ryan Furness and James Parkin highlight his ability to compete well beyond local events, while his recent form suggests there is still room for further improvement.

This Week

Jamie Kay earns his place in this week's spotlight following an outstanding run at the UKDA National Finals.

After opening with a convincing 4–0 victory over Barry Collier, Kay continued his progress with wins against James Tate and Andrew Kateley, booking his place in the Last 32 of one of the strongest fields of the week.

Although his tournament ended with a 4–0 defeat to Jack Johnson, the scoreline tells only part of the story. Kay produced a superb 92.95 average, comfortably his highest of the tournament, showing he was competing at an exceptionally high standard despite exiting the event.

It is exactly the sort of performance that deserves recognition. Winning matches is important, but producing almost a 93 average on a national stage demonstrates the quality needed to compete with some of the country's strongest players.
