Three Players Who Caught My Eye This Week

Another busy week of grassroots darts has produced three very different stories for this week's Q4QS Weekly Spotlight.

Sean Holley backed up an already formidable record with two more tournament victories. Joshua Russell combined another title with a superb run to the JDC Wales Regional Final and produced some of the best junior averages of the week. And Riley Milligan earns a first Spotlight appearance after another strong week on the JDC circuit, including an excellent performance at the South West Regional Finals.

As always, this isn't simply about finding the three biggest averages or choosing the week's biggest tournament winners. It's about performances, consistency and players whose progress or results have caught my eye over the previous seven days.

Sean Holley

Player Profile

Sean Holley's numbers underline just how consistently successful he has been.

Across 569 recorded matches, Holley has won 482, an outstanding 84.7% win rate. His 100 recorded tournament appearances have already produced 35 victories, eight runner-up finishes and another 24 semi-final or quarter-final appearances. His current form is also excellent at nine wins from his last ten matches.

The scoring numbers are equally impressive. Holley has an 81.63 overall match average, with that rising to 85.13 across his latest ten. His best recorded performance is 117.72, while his five highest averages all exceed 109.

There is plenty of quality among the opposition too. His recorded wins include Jack Drayton, Nathan Potter, Robbie Martin and Danny Lauby, with Holley averaging 100.99 in his victory over Martin.

This Week

Holley started the week by winning the Bank Holiday Comp at Wiltshire Darts House, coming through a tournament containing 113 recorded matches.

He beat Johnny Haines 5–1 in the final, recorded ten wins across the event and produced a 96.97 average along the way.

Later in the week came title number two.

At Bradmoor Farm's Friday Vault Break 3, Holley progressed through the knockout stages with averages of 90.18, 92.02, 88.46 and 84.03 before producing 94.92 in the final to beat Adam Mould 3–2.

That gives Holley two tournament victories in the week, and his profile now shows 35 recorded titles from 100 events.

Another hugely consistent week from a player who continues to make winning tournaments look remarkably routine.

Joshua Russell

Player Profile

Joshua Russell already has an enormous amount of competitive experience recorded in the Q4QS database.

His 795 matches have produced 646 victories, giving him an 81.3% win rate across 133 events. Even more strikingly, Russell has already recorded 42 tournament wins, as well as 18 runner-up finishes and 25 semi-finals. His latest form stands at nine wins from ten.

Russell's overall match average is 73.86, but his recent numbers are considerably higher: 89.21 across his last five matches and 86.37 across his last ten.

And his best-ever Q4QS recorded average is now 103.66 — a figure he has produced twice.

This Week

Russell began the week with another tournament victory, winning Clive Arms Vault Break 3. He recorded seven wins and defeated Edward Manley in the final.

There was more success at Cardiff County Cons later in the week. Russell beat Joe Hoffman with a 93.94 average in the quarter-final, Josef Howlett 3–0 in the semi-final and Edward Manley 3–0 in the final, averaging 85.08.

Then came Friday's JDC Volts Wales Series 7 Regional Finals.

Russell opened the knockout stages with successive 4–0 wins, averaging 95.43 against Archie Lane, 87.13 against Dylan Person and then producing a huge 103.66 against Rhodri Phillips in the quarter-final. He followed that with a 4–2 semi-final victory over James Prettyjohn before Jack Powell edged the final 4–3.

It meant Russell finished the week with two tournament victories and a JDC Regional Final, while also producing one of the week's outstanding averages.

Riley Milligan

Player Profile

Riley Milligan's inclusion gives this week's Spotlight another developing-player story.

Milligan already has 486 recorded matches, winning 370 for an impressive 76.1% win rate. Across 98 events, that has produced 16 tournament wins, 13 runner-up finishes, 13 semi-finals and 14 quarter-finals.

His overall match average stands at 69.93, but there is a spectacular number at the top of his record: a 125.25, produced during a JDC Volts event in June. He has also broken the 100 mark on three other occasions.

His best wins include an 88.41 average in a 3–0 victory over Logan Neil Symons, while he has also beaten Henry Cooper and Robbie Long.

This Week

Milligan's week began on the JDC England South Foundation Tour, where he reached the last 16 of Event 12 after victories over Aiden Styler and Jayden Moss.

But the performance that really caught my attention came at Friday's JDC Volts Southwest Series 7 Regional Finals.

Milligan began with a convincing 4–0 victory over Frankie Lynch, averaging 74.22.

He then produced his best performance of the week against Tai Anderson. Milligan averaged an excellent 84.33, but was edged out 4–3 in a close last-16 contest.

Interestingly, that 84.33 was the highest recorded average anywhere in the South West Regional Finals, despite Milligan not ultimately taking the title.

That is exactly the type of performance this feature is intended to recognise. The winner isn't always the only player whose week deserves attention, and Milligan's scoring at a regional final earns him his place alongside Holley and Russell this time. 

Yesterday's Darts Results: Big Ton-Plus Averages Headline Monday's Action 18th August 2026 (South and South West)

 

After a huge Sunday schedule, Monday 17 August brought a more manageable 22 tournaments into the Q4QS database, but there was no shortage of quality.

Anthony Bennett produced the performance of the night with a superb 107.36 average, while Stephen Cake and Geoff James also broke the 100 barrier.

There was South West interest too, with Riley Milligan winning the JDC VOLTS event in Salisbury, while James continued his good form with victory at the Wolversdene Club.

Milligan takes the honours in Salisbury

One of the most interesting results locally came from the latest JDC VOLTS Series 7 event at Stratford Social Club in Salisbury.

Riley Milligan came through the tournament with eight victories, eventually defeating Joshua Stott 3–1 in the final.

Milligan also produced the highest average of the competition, hitting 77.08 against Mason Beaven.

There was plenty to like elsewhere among the young players. Zachary Petty registered a 76.15, while Beaven reached 75.15 and finished the night with five wins.

It was another good example of the strength developing through the junior game, with the JDC VOLTS continuing to provide regular competitive opportunities around the country.

Geoff James breaks 100 on way to title

Geoff James produced one of Monday's standout performances at the Wolversdene Club.

James won the Money In Money Out Round-Robin, defeating Jamie Kelling 3–1 in the final, and recorded eight victories across the competition.

The highlight was a huge 102.48 average, the third-highest individual average recorded anywhere in Monday's Q4QS results.

Kelling also enjoyed a strong tournament, winning seven times and producing an 88.56, while David Moule and Henry Povey both hit 91.09.

Bennett produces the performance of the night

The biggest average of the day came at Brynmawr Social Club.

Anthony Bennett fired in a superb 107.36, before going on to win the tournament with a 3–1 victory over Cameron Edwards in the final.

Bennett also produced a 93.94 earlier in the competition and averaged 85.43 in the final itself.

Craig Dobbins was another strong performer, reaching 87.78, while both Bennett and Gethyn Bennett finished with six victories.

Cake combines big scoring with the title

There was another 100+ performance at Nantyffyllon Non Political Club, where Stephen Cake didn't just produce one of the biggest numbers of the day – he also took the title.

Cake's 103.66 was second only to Bennett across Monday's results.

He went on to beat Gavin Sterio 3–0 in the final, averaging 86.71 in the process, and finished with seven victories.

Mike Huntley also impressed with a 90.18, while Connor Hopkins recorded an 88.06.

Kenny wins at Cwmbran

Another familiar name came through at Cwmbran Working Men's Band Club.

Nick Kenny won the opening Vault Break event, beating Jose Van Angeles 3–1 in the final.

Kenny recorded eight victories and produced several strong averages along the way, headed by 93.94, with another 89.26 also among his better performances.

Meneer comes through at Welshpool

There was a strong standard at The Angel in Welshpool, where Neil Meneer defeated Jamie Kay 3–1 in the final.

Kay actually produced the two biggest averages of the tournament at 95.94 and 93.94, but Meneer responded when it mattered with an excellent 93.34 in the final.

Meneer finished the event with seven wins and also recorded a 90.18 during his run to the title.

Plenty more winners across Monday

Elsewhere, Luke Grantham came through a huge 99-match Monday Flyer at 8 Ball Bar & Sports, defeating Finlay Cleave 2–1 in the final and hitting a best of 91.09.

Jason Kenderdine won an Under-65 round-robin with eight victories and an 81.98 best, while Louis Melville won the Champion of Champions Shooters warm-up and Joshua Russell took the Clive Arms Vault Break.

Shane Turner also enjoyed an excellent evening at the Riverside Club, winning eight matches on his way to the title and producing a best average of 89.57.

Monday's standout numbers

Three performances broke through the 100 barrier:

Anthony Bennett – 107.36

Behind them came Liam Forward at 96.97 and Jamie Kay at 95.94, with Nick Kenny, Gavin Mercer and Jamie Elliott among those recording 93.94 averages.

It may have been a quieter Monday after Sunday's enormous schedule, but there was still plenty to take from the results – particularly the combination of big averages and tournament victories from Bennett, Cake and James, alongside another encouraging JDC VOLTS performance from Riley Milligan in Salisbury.

Monday brought another packed night of grassroots darts, with 29 tournaments added to the Q4QS database and plenty of strong performances across the South West and wider coverage area.

The featured winners on the graphic tell much of the story, but there was also one result I definitely wanted to make sure was included: Ellie Harwood’s victory at the 49 Club in Weston-super-Mare.

Pete Hughes takes the Bengeworth title

At The Bengeworth in Evesham, Pete Hughes came through another competitive field to take the Vault 18 title.

Hughes defeated Matt Metrovich 3–2 in the final and finished the event with seven victories. He also produced two 93.94 averages during the tournament, underlining the consistency behind the title run.

The highest average of the event actually came from Mitchell Leeming, who fired a superb 103.66, while Luis Cowley-Bryenton also reached 93.94 and Dave Honey produced 91.09.

Riley Milligan wins JDC VOLTS in Salisbury

The latest JDC VOLTS Series 7 event at Stratford Social Club produced a cracking final, with Riley Milligan edging Joshua Stott 3–2.

Both players finished the event with eight wins, while Milligan’s best recorded average was 77.74. Stott topped the scoring with 79.11 and also produced several other solid performances during a very competitive night.

Daren Field takes the Stratford Social Club title

There was more success in Salisbury later in the evening, as Daren Field won the Vault 18 event at Stratford Social Club.

Field defeated Ben Collins 3–1 in the final and finished with seven wins.

The biggest scoring numbers came from Robbie Martin, who produced 96.97 and 93.56, while Collins also reached 88.41 and 86.87 on his way to the final.

Lee Evans impresses in Andover

At The Wolversdene Club in Andover, Lee Evans produced one of the strongest overall title-winning displays of the night.

Evans beat Henry Povey 3–1 in the final, but it was his scoring throughout the tournament that really stood out.

He recorded:

and finished with eight victories in total.

That is exactly the kind of complete tournament performance that tends to stand out in the Q4QS data.

Ellie Harwood wins at the 49 Club

This is the result that didn’t make the socials picture but absolutely deserves a mention.

At the 49 Club U65 Round Robin in Weston-super-Mare, Ellie Harwood came through a very competitive field to take the title, defeating James Male 3–0 in the final.

Harwood finished the event with eight wins, the most of anyone in the tournament, and produced a best recorded average of 69.91.

James Male won seven matches and twice reached 83.50, while Luke Adams also finished with seven wins. Dave Dawson matched Male’s 83.50 as the joint-highest average of the event.

This was exactly why the 49 Club event looked so interesting beforehand: limited-average competitions often produce genuinely open fields, and Harwood made the most of the opportunity.

Gary Hiscock beats McCarthy in Calne

There was another interesting result at North Star Club in Calne, where Gary Hiscock defeated Josh McCarthy 3–1 in the final.

McCarthy produced the highest average of the entire day with a huge 112.73, but it was Hiscock who ultimately took the title.

Hiscock himself produced 85.08 and 83.63 during the event and completed the night with six wins.

A perfect reminder that the highest average does not always translate into the trophy.

Finlay Cleave wins in Paignton

At 8 Ball Bar & Sports in Paignton, Finlay Cleave claimed the title after beating Andy Steed 3–1 in the final.

Cleave won eight matches and produced averages of 91.09, 89.24 and 88.41 during his run.

The highest individual average there came from Carl McFarlane, who fired an excellent 107.36.

More standout performances

There were some enormous numbers elsewhere too.

Shane Turner produced a stunning sequence at Riverside Club in Wycombe, recording 111.33, 111.33 and 111.31 during a title-winning run.

Alec Small won at Wattsville with a 104.16 in the final, while Ryan Davies hit 100.20 in the same event.

Another strong Monday for Q4QS

Monday may have featured fewer tournaments than the weekend, but the quality was certainly there.

Pete Hughes won in Evesham, Riley Milligan took JDC honours in Salisbury, Daren Field won at Stratford Social Club, Lee Evans impressed in Andover and Ellie Harwood came through a highly competitive U65 field at the 49 Club.

With another 29 tournaments now added, the Q4QS database continues to build a clearer picture of who is winning, who is improving and who is producing the standout performances across the grassroots game.
