Lee Andrews takes Hangar 61 title as Martin Walker, Scott Lawrey and Callum Weaver also win
Thursday produced another huge night of grassroots darts, with 47 tournaments added to the Q4QS database.
With events stretching across the Q4QS coverage area, there was plenty to digest, but as usual we start in the South West, where Hangar 61, Yeovil, Plymouth and Worcester all produced interesting stories.
Lee Andrews wins a thriller at Hangar 61
After looking at a strong field in yesterday’s preview, Lee Andrews emerged as the winner of the Thursday Night Round Robin at Hangar 61.
Andrews defeated Liam Moore 3–2 in the final, completing an impressive evening in which he recorded eight victories – the most of anyone in the tournament. Moore finished with seven wins and had earlier produced the event's highest average of 85.08 in a 3–0 victory over Chris Williams.
There were other encouraging performances too. Dan Cornes and John Hawkins both recorded 81.24 averages, while Harvey Curtis picked up six wins during the competition.
For Andrews, though, it was another title to add to his recent good form – and beating Moore in the deciding match made it a particularly notable victory.
Martin Walker comes through in Yeovil
At Yeovil Labour Club, Martin Walker took the Vault 18.0 title after defeating Mike Harper 3–0 in the final.
Interestingly, Harper produced much of the night's eye-catching scoring. He hit the tournament's best average of 91.09, as well as further performances of 88.41 and 86.71. Walker, however, was the man who kept progressing and eventually finished the evening with seven victories and the title.
Zak Brown also produced an 88.41 during the competition.
It was a good example of why tournament darts is about considerably more than simply recording the highest average of the night.
Scott Lawrey takes the Plymouth title
Further south, Scott Lawrey won at Legends Lounge in Plymouth, defeating Isaac Phillips 3–1 in the final.
Lawrey's best recorded average was 86.13, while Phillips actually finished with seven wins compared with Lawrey's six. But once again it was the eventual champion who delivered when the title was on the line.
Dan Bevan wins at Kentisbeare
There was another strong South West field at The Wyndham Arms in Kentisbeare, where Dan Bevan defeated Andy Steed 3–2 in the final.
Steed produced some excellent numbers on the way, including a 96.97 average against Jack Walker and a 91.09 against Shane Bevan. Dan Bevan responded with a 90.18 of his own during his run and ultimately finished with eight victories and the title.
Callum Weaver takes Worcester honours
At The Cue Corner in Worcester, Callum Weaver defeated Steve Sewell 3–2 to take the Vault 18.0 title.
One of the most interesting performances there came from Pete Hughes, who recorded the tournament's highest average of 90.68, followed by an 87.78 later in the evening. Hughes eventually lost 3–2 to Weaver, while the champion and Sewell both recorded six victories.
Big numbers elsewhere
There were some exceptional figures further afield too.
The standout number in the complete set of results came from Andy Smith, who produced a huge 115.62 average at Cressex Social Club in High Wycombe. Smith went on to win the tournament, beating Jai Carlton 3–0 in the final, and remarkably recorded all five of the event's leading averages himself.
Mike Huntley also enjoyed an outstanding evening at The Bird in Maesteg. Huntley recorded averages of 107.36, 100.20 and 98.02 and completed the job by defeating Gavin Sterio 3–0 in the final.
At Evesham's Night Six, Mitchell Leeming, Joe Quiney and Darrel Williams all recorded 100.20 averages. The available results do not identify an overall winner for that competition, so I wouldn't attribute the title to anyone from the current data.
Another busy Thursday for Q4QS
Forty-seven tournaments makes this another substantial addition to the database, and Thursday once again demonstrated the depth of competitive darts taking place every week.
Locally, Lee Andrews, Martin Walker, Scott Lawrey, Dan Bevan and Callum Weaver all added titles, while performances from players such as Liam Moore, Mike Harper, Andy Steed and Pete Hughes showed that the winner's trophy only tells part of the story.
And with another full weekend of darts approaching, there should be plenty more movement in the Q4QS rankings to come.
