Country Spotlight: Lithuania

 

I've decided to start a new weekly feature on Quest For Q School called Country Spotlight.

Each week I take a closer look at a different darts nation from around the world. Some are well established, while others are quietly building exciting futures.

This week the spotlight moves to Lithuania, another nation helping to strengthen darts across the Baltic region.

Where is Lithuania?

Lithuania is the southernmost of the three Baltic states, sharing borders with Latvia, Belarus, Poland and the Russian exclave of Kaliningrad.

With a population of around 2.9 million people, Lithuania is the largest Baltic nation by population and has developed a growing sporting reputation across Europe.

While basketball remains the country's national sport, darts continues to attract more players every year.

Building a Strong Darts Community

The Lithuanian Darts Federation has spent many years building a competitive domestic structure, organising national ranking events and encouraging players to compete internationally.

Lithuanian players are now regular competitors at WDF tournaments, PDC Nordic & Baltic events and other European competitions.

The standard continues to improve as players gain valuable experience against stronger opposition.

Lithuania on the International Stage

Lithuania has become one of the most recognised Baltic nations in world darts.

The country regularly competes in WDF Europe Cup and WDF World Cup events while also producing players capable of competing successfully on the professional circuit.

Lithuania's profile has risen significantly over the past decade thanks to several players enjoying success beyond their domestic circuit.

Players to Watch

Lithuania has produced some of the strongest players in the Baltic region, with several regularly competing on both the WDF and PDC circuits.

Leading the way is Darius Labanauskas, widely regarded as Lithuania's greatest modern darts player. According to the Q4QS database, he has played 99 recorded matches, winning 59 with an impressive 90.46 match average and 90.45 Q4QS Average. His best recorded average currently stands at 103.29, underlining the quality that has seen him compete successfully against many of the world's best players.

Another experienced international is Arūnas Sakalauskas. Across 34 recorded matches, he has produced a Q4QS Average of 74.05 with a best recorded average of 83.45, while regularly competing on the PDC Nordic & Baltic Tour against many of the region's top players.

Also worth watching is Mindaugas Barauskas, whose Q4QS profile includes 25 recorded matches and a best average of 90.92. His performances on the Nordic & Baltic circuit continue to demonstrate the strength and depth of Lithuanian darts.

Why Lithuania Matters

The country's players are becoming increasingly competitive against Europe's established darts nations, while a strong domestic calendar continues to develop the next generation.

Looking Ahead

Lithuania appears well placed to continue its progress.

With experienced international players leading the way and younger talent emerging behind them, the future of Lithuanian darts looks bright.

The challenge now is to produce even more players capable of following in the footsteps of Darius Labanauskas.

South West Results Round-Up – Robbie Long, Josh McCarthy and Liam Blakeley Among Thursday's Winners

 

Thursday produced another excellent evening of grassroots darts across the South West, with ADC Vault 18 events and Opens delivering plenty of quality performances, big averages and several familiar names lifting titles.

From Patchway and Stroud to Yeovil, Plymouth, Faringdon and Bournemouth, another busy night saw players battling for valuable Vault ranking points as the summer season gathered momentum.

Robbie Long Produces Huge Performance At Hangar61

One of the standout performances of the night came at Hangar61, Patchway, where Robbie Long claimed the Thursday Night Round Robin title.

Long defeated Lewis Kendall 3-1 in the final, producing a magnificent 107.36 average against Jacob Godber earlier in the evening before following it up with another outstanding 98.02 average against recent Hangar61 champion John Brown.

Lewis Kendall continued his impressive recent run by reaching another final, while Matt Jackson and Chris Williams were also among the players making deep runs.

Josh McCarthy Wins Strong Stroud Vault

A competitive field assembled at The Carlton Club, Stroud, where Josh McCarthy edged Cori Wiltshire 3-2 in an excellent final.

McCarthy produced one of the performances of the evening with a superb 105.86 average, while Cori Wiltshire continued his excellent recent form with averages of 95.49 and 89.25. Lee Andrews also featured among the leading performers in another high-quality Gloucestershire event.

Liam Blakeley Stuns Henry Cooper

At Yeovil Labour Club, Liam Blakeley produced arguably the performance of the South West evening.

Blakeley defeated the in-form Henry Cooper 3-0 in the final, firing a brilliant 107.36 average. Cooper still impressed with averages of 94.57 and 90.93, while Matt Yarrow also topped the century mark with 102.48 earlier in the competition.

Ricky King Continues His Fine Form

Another familiar winner emerged at The Kings Arms, Wallisdown, where Ricky King defeated Jayden Walker 3-1 in the final.

Walker posted the event's highest average of 96.04, but King's consistency across the evening earned him another impressive Vault title.

Scott Lawrey Claims Plymouth Success

The Legends Lounge in Plymouth hosted another competitive Vault event.

Scott Lawrey edged Sean Taylor 3-2 in the final after both players enjoyed excellent evenings, while Darren Pearce and Aiden Stenson also featured among the strongest performers.

Sam Jackson Wins At Faringdon

At Faringdon Football Club, Sam Jackson lifted the title after defeating Mac Goves 3-1 in the final.

Gary Court once again demonstrated his scoring power with the highest average of the evening at 93.94, but Jackson proved the most consistent performer over the course of the tournament.

• Jamie Shovelton won the Thursday Night Round Robin at DartAsylum HQ.
• Chris Clark claimed victory at Highridge United FC in Bristol.
• Dave Legg won the Deers Leap Under-70 event.
• Evesham's Night Two produced another excellent standard, with Joe Quiney leading the averages on 88.41 despite no overall winner being identified in the available results.

Another excellent night of grassroots darts showed once again the strength of the South West scene, with several players producing outstanding performances as the race for Vault ranking points continues.

Yesterday's Results – Wednesday 8 July

 

Wednesday evening saw another busy night of grassroots darts across the South West, with ADC Vault 18 events producing plenty of quality performances and several familiar names adding another title to their growing collections.

At The Sartan Club in Bishopsworth, Mervyn Adams produced one of his best performances of recent weeks, edging past Ellis Radford 3-2 in an entertaining final. Radford continued his impressive run of form, while Ryan Palmer, Darren Davies and Connor Davies were all among the players reaching the latter stages. Adrian Wood also fired the highest average of the evening with an excellent 103.66.

Over at Hangar61, Patchway, John Brown enjoyed a superb evening, defeating Cori Wiltshire in the final and producing one of the performances of the night with a magnificent 104.86 average. Robbie Long also impressed during another competitive Bristol event.

There was another strong Gloucestershire event at Magpies Social Club, Stonehouse, where Joshua Lewis lifted the title after defeating Mitch McCarthy in the final. Lewis also produced a 100.20 average during his run and Shaun Vernall once again featured among the strongest performers.

Further south, Andy Steed claimed another ADC Vault title in Exeter, while Henry Cooper continued his excellent season with victory at Stalbridge RBL after overcoming Nigel Edwards in the final. Both players continue to strengthen their credentials as two of the South West's most consistent performers.

Elsewhere, Danny Humphries won in Salisbury, Tom Crocker lifted the title in Christchurch, Kian Gover came out on top in Ilfracombe and Dave Fisher won the Pawlett Pavilion Grand Prix in Somerset after another competitive night of local darts.

The overall standard was once again exceptionally high, with several players breaking the 100-average barrier across the country, while South West events continued to produce competitive fields and plenty of quality performances.

Q4QS Live – Public Beta Now Available

 

After several weeks of development and testing, I'm pleased to announce that Q4QS Live has entered Public Beta.

Q4QS Live is a live grassroots darts results broadcast that follows multiple tournaments simultaneously, bringing completed match results together into one easy-to-follow stream. Rather than switching between individual tournaments, you can keep up with the latest action from venues across the South West and beyond in a single TV-style broadcast.

The project is still in beta, and I'll continue making small improvements based on testing and feedback. My focus is on reliability first, followed by presentation, while keeping the broadcast simple and easy to follow.

If you'd like to see it in action, I'd love for you to drop in, have a watch and let me know what you think. Feedback is always welcome as I continue to develop Q4QS Live into the best grassroots darts results service I can.

South West Results Round-Up – Johnny Haines, Neil Meneer and Pete Hughes Among Tuesday's Winners

 

Tuesday night delivered another packed programme of ADC Vault 18 action across the South West, with strong fields, impressive averages and several familiar names continuing their excellent recent form.

From Faringdon and Evesham to Tiverton, Chard, Portland, Bristol and Cornwall, players battled for valuable Vault points as the race towards the regional finals continues.

Johnny Haines Continues His Excellent Season

One of the standout performances came at Faringdon Football Club, where Johnny Haines claimed another Vault 18 title.

Haines defeated Gary Court 3-1 in the final after another high-quality evening. Both players impressed throughout the event, with Gary Court recording a 96.97 average, while Haines produced excellent averages of 95.12, 92.02 and 85.08 on his way to the title.

Pete Hughes Too Strong In Evesham

At Bretforton Sports Club, Pete Hughes produced one of the performances of the night.

He defeated Callum Weaver 3-0 in the final and fired in superb averages of 96.97, 95.94 and 93.94 during an outstanding tournament.

American professional Danny Lauby also featured among the top averages, underlining the strength of the Evesham event.

Neil Meneer Wins Cornwall Showdown

The Indian Queens Working Men's Club hosted another strong Vault event.

Neil Meneer edged Gareth Griffiths 3-1 in the final after both players produced outstanding darts. Each recorded 96.97 averages, making this one of the highest-quality finals of the evening.

Luke Cottrell Triumphs In Tiverton

The Tiverton Vault attracted another competitive field.

Luke Cottrell came through to defeat Freddie Davey 3-2 in the final, while Andy Steed once again featured among the leading performers with another consistent evening.

Leighton Cox Wins In Chard

At The Choughs Hotel, Leighton Cox lifted the title after defeating Darren Herbert 3-1 in the final.

Leighton also posted the event's highest average of 95.94, rounding off an excellent night's work.

Matthew Reddy Claims Bristol Vault

The Bristol Vault at Bessellscotts saw Matthew Reddy defeat Justin Lobb in the final.

Although it was a smaller field, Reddy completed a perfect evening to take another Vault title and valuable ranking points.

Portland Produces Another Strong Event

At Portland Social Club, Matt Yarrow lifted the title with victory over James Hayes.

Meanwhile, Alfie Yarrow produced several excellent performances during the evening, including a highest average of 91.09.

DartAsylum Round Robin

The weekly DartAsylum HQ Under-70 Round Robin once again produced a competitive evening.

Tommy Sperring defeated James Wintle-McKay 4-2 in the final, while Collis Palmer topped the averages with an impressive 85.89.

Another superb evening highlighted the strength of grassroots darts across the South West, with plenty of quality on show as the ADC Vault season continues to build towards its regional finals.

Bristol & South West's Most Improved Players - A Very Important Ranking

 

Winning tournaments will always grab the headlines, but it isn't the only way to measure progress.

One of my favourite features in the Q4QS rankings is the Improvement Report, which compares a player's last 50 recorded legs against their previous 50 legs. Rather than rewarding a single great night or one tournament victory, it highlights players who are genuinely raising their level over time.

In many ways, I think this tells a bigger story than a simple league table.

Every darts player goes through peaks and troughs. We all have evenings where nothing seems to go right, followed by weeks where everything suddenly clicks. That's completely normal. What matters is how you respond after those difficult spells.

Take Ethan Williams, who currently tops the latest Bristol & South West Improvement Rankings.

His numbers are remarkable. Ethan has increased his average from 47.12 over his previous 50 legs to 65.91 across his latest 50 legs – an improvement of 18.79 points, or almost 40%.

That doesn't necessarily mean Ethan has suddenly become a completely different player overnight. It may simply show someone who has worked through a difficult period, found confidence again, and is now producing the level he is capable of.

That is exactly why I enjoy this report so much.

Behind Ethan are several players who continue to move in the right direction, including Christopher Willcocks, Christopher Staples, Joshua Rees, George Freeman, Natalie Baxter, Benny Watkins and Jamie Davey. Each has shown significant improvement over their most recent performances, proving that consistent development often matters more than one-off results.

Improvement isn't always a straight line

It's important to remember that this isn't a permanent ranking.

Players who appear near the top this month may naturally drop back next month once those improved performances become part of their longer-term average. Equally, players who are currently outside the Top 50 may suddenly climb the list after putting together a few strong tournaments.

That's exactly how improvement works.

Nobody keeps getting better every single week forever. Even the best players experience dips in form. The difference is that they recover.

For me, one of the most encouraging signs is seeing the same names appear in the Improvement Rankings again and again.

If a player can consistently remain inside the Top 50 Improvers, it usually suggests they are steadily developing their game rather than relying on occasional good nights. Those are often the players who quietly climb the Q4QS rankings over the course of a season.

This report isn't designed to replace the main rankings.

Instead, it complements them by answering a different question:

Who's getting better?

Whether you're chasing your first tournament win or trying to break into the top tier of South West darts, improvement is ultimately what matters.

Keep improving, and the results usually follow.

I'll continue updating the Q4QS Improvement Rankings throughout the season, and it'll be fascinating to see who keeps moving upwards as 2026 progresses.

Introducing the 2026 South West Vault Finals Order of Merit

Over the course of 2026 I'm going to be keeping track of a brand-new statistic – the South West Vault Finals Order of Merit.

The idea is simple. Instead of rewarding players for entering lots of tournaments, this table rewards those who consistently perform when it matters most: the knockout stages of the biggest Vault events across the South West.

Every Vault event held during 2026 will contribute towards the table, with players earning points based on how far they progress.

Points System

🏆 Winner – 5 points

🥈 Runner-up – 4 points

🥉 Semi-final – 3 points

Quarter-final – 2 points

Last 16 – 1 point

The aim is to recognise consistency in high-quality competitions. A player who regularly reaches quarter-finals and semi-finals could finish above someone who wins one event but doesn't feature again.

After the opening three Vault events (Vaults 15, 16 and 17), the standings are already taking shape.

One of the early stories is Jamie Kay, who tops the table without winning a Vault. Two semi-final appearances and a quarter-final have rewarded consistency, while Josh McCarthy, Henry Cooper and Ashton Brown have all picked up maximum points by winning a Vault event.

As more Vault competitions take place during the year, I'll continue updating the table to see who really is the standout performer across the South West's premier local events.

It should make for an interesting race throughout the season.
