The Toughest Vault 18 Venues in the South West – According to the Q4QS Database

 

Where are the hardest places to win a Vault 18 title?

It's a question I've heard several times, and like most debates in darts, everyone has an opinion.

Some players will tell you Bristol is the toughest place to play. Others swear by Gloucestershire, while players from Somerset and Worcestershire would no doubt argue that their local venues are every bit as competitive.

Rather than relying on opinion, I thought I'd let the Q4QS database do the talking.

Before looking at the rankings, it's important to explain exactly what you're looking at.

Tournament Strength isn't the same as tournament average

One of the biggest misconceptions in darts statistics is that a high winning average automatically means a strong tournament.

It doesn't.

The Q4QS Tournament Strength Index isn't designed to measure how well the winner played. Instead, it measures the overall quality of the field taking part. A tournament packed with highly-rated players will score highly, even if conditions mean averages are slightly lower than normal.

In simple terms...

Tournament Average tells you how well players performed.

Tournament Strength tells you how difficult the tournament was to win.

That's what makes it such an interesting statistic.

The table below shows the highest Tournament Strength Index recorded by each venue currently appearing in the Q4QS database. While these are benchmark figures rather than long-term venue averages, they provide an excellent indication of which venues are capable of producing exceptionally strong fields.

Worcestershire quietly leads the way

Perhaps the biggest surprise is the county at the top.

While Bristol has long been regarded as one of England's darts hotbeds, Worcestershire boasts three venues inside the current Top 15, including the Bengeworth Club, which holds the highest Tournament Strength recorded in the database.

Anyone who has played at Bengeworth will know exactly why.

Strong local players, regular visitors and a consistently competitive field make every draw a genuine test.

Bristol continues to deliver

It would be impossible to write this article without mentioning Bristol.

The Sartan Club continues to justify its reputation as one of the country's premier grassroots venues, while Hangar61 has established itself as another excellent destination for competitive Vault 18 darts.

What stands out isn't just the quality of the leading players, but the depth throughout the field.

Winning in Bristol rarely comes easily.

A healthy spread across the South West

One of the most encouraging aspects of these rankings is how geographically diverse they are.

Somerset is represented by Yeovil Labour Club and Choughs Hotel.

Gloucestershire has the ever-improving Magpies Social Club.

Wiltshire's North Star Club continues to attract quality entries.

Oxfordshire appears twice, while Hampshire also makes the list.

That's fantastic news for grassroots darts.

Players no longer need to travel huge distances to find strong competition. Across the South West there are now numerous venues capable of producing fields packed with county players, experienced competitors and ambitious youngsters.

The standard keeps rising

Perhaps that's the biggest story of all.

The purpose of the Tournament Strength Index isn't simply to rank venues.

It's to track the overall health of grassroots darts.

Looking at these figures, one conclusion feels unavoidable.

The standard is improving.

More players are competing regularly.

More venues are attracting stronger entries.

And more tournaments are becoming genuinely difficult to win.

For anyone looking to test themselves against quality opposition, these venues represent some of the very best the South West has to offer.

As the Q4QS database continues to grow, I'll be revisiting these rankings using long-term venue averages to see which clubs consistently attract the strongest fields.

For now, though, these venues have set the benchmark.

And judging by the quality on display week after week, earning a Vault 18 title at any of them is an achievement to be proud of.

Yesterday's Results Round-Up – Tuesday 14 July 2026

 

Tuesday brought another packed evening of grassroots darts, with more than 40 tournaments added to the Q4QS database. Across the South West there were plenty of familiar names lifting trophies, some standout averages and another night of quality competition.

Neil Meneer Continues Winning Ways

Neil Meneer was back in the winner's enclosure at Vault 18.0 at Indian Queens WMC & Institute.

Neil defeated Jason Truscott in the final and produced one of the performances of the evening with a superb 102.48 average. It is another excellent result for one of the South West's most consistent performers, who continues to collect titles throughout 2026.

Darren Davies Wins in Portishead

A competitive field gathered for the Last Minute Open in Portishead, where Darren Davies claimed the title with a convincing victory over Luke Harding in the final.

Darren also recorded the highest average of the night at 91.09, while Steve Boundy and Luke Harding both impressed during strong runs to the latter stages.

Richie Hunt Claims Tuesday Night Title

The Tuesday Night Sub-70 Average Round Robin produced another entertaining evening.

Richie Hunt edged out Liam Moore in a close 3-2 final, while Liam produced the highest average of the event at 81.20. Dan Cornes, Teddy Sheppard and Collis Palmer were also among the players enjoying productive evenings.

Chard Delivers More Quality

At Vault 18.0 in Chard, Daren Field lifted the trophy after defeating Kieran Spurdle in the final.

Although he narrowly missed out on the title, Darren Herbert produced several excellent performances, including a 92.02 average, while Leighton Cox also impressed with a best of 96.97 during the evening.

Luke Reed Triumphs in Tiverton

The Tiverton Vault saw Luke Reed emerge victorious after overcoming Martin Walker in the final.

David Yeaman, James Head, Neil Ridd and Andy Steed were all among the players enjoying strong evenings as another competitive Devon event was added to the books.

Henry Cooper Wins Rearranged Event

The rearranged Kings Arms Vault saw Henry Cooper produce a dominant display, defeating Tommy Brooks in the final.

Henry fired two 93.94 averages during his successful run and rounded off an impressive night's work with eight match victories.

Charlie Mossman Leads the Next Generation

The JDC circuit continued to showcase some exciting young talent.

Charlie Mossman claimed victory in Minehead after edging Kyle Chivers in a close final, while another busy evening of junior darts highlighted the strength of the next generation across the region.

Performance of the Day

While there were several outstanding displays across the country, Neil Meneer's brilliant 102.48 average and another tournament victory stands out from a South West perspective. Darren Davies, Richie Hunt, Henry Cooper and Daren Field also enjoyed memorable evenings as another busy night of grassroots darts came to a close.

Yesterday's Results Round-Up – 13 July 2026

 

Monday night saw another busy evening across the grassroots darts scene, with more than 30 tournaments added to the Q4QS database. As always, I'm concentrating mainly on the South West, where there were plenty of familiar names collecting titles and producing impressive performances.

Josh McCarthy Continues His Fine Form

The standout performance came at Vault 18.0 @ North Star Club, Calne, where Josh McCarthy continued his excellent run of form.

Josh defeated Mitch McCarthy in the final to collect another Vault title, producing the day's highest average at the venue with a superb 91.34 average during his semi-final victory over Cori Wiltshire.

Mitch McCarthy continued his own excellent spell by reaching another final, while Cori Wiltshire impressed with a 91.09 average of his own and Michael Davies also fired in an excellent 87.57 average.

It is becoming increasingly difficult to look beyond Josh whenever he enters a local Vault event.

Andy Steed Back in the Winner's Circle

Over in Paignton, Andy Steed claimed the title after overcoming Charlie Wiles in the final.

Andy produced one of the performances of the day with a 93.94 average and once again demonstrated why he remains one of the strongest players in the South West. Charlie Wiles also enjoyed an excellent evening to reach the final, while Richie Blaynee and Leigh Bowman both posted averages above 85.

Kian Gover Triumphs in Barnstaple

The Barnstaple Vault produced another competitive field with Kian Gover lifting the trophy after defeating Zac Sanders in the final.

David Yeaman recorded the highest average of the night with an excellent 91.09, while Zac Sanders won eight matches during the evening before narrowly missing out on the title.

Martin Haines Wins in Salisbury

The Stratford Social Club in Salisbury produced another quality Monday night tournament.

Martin Haines edged past Stephen Lawrence in a close final, while Ashley Melvin was arguably the standout scorer on the night with several averages over 80, including a best of 90.51.

David Farmer Takes Minehead Honours

Minehead's Vault also produced some excellent darts as David Farmer lifted the title with victory over Jack Walker.

Taylor Foster posted the highest average of the evening at 96.97 before Farmer eventually took the tournament with several excellent displays of his own.

Junior Darts Continues to Flourish

It was another encouraging night for the JDC.

• Logun Godbeer won at Highbridge after beating Tai Anderson in the final.
• Zachary Petty claimed victory in Salisbury.
• Kian Hopkins came out on top in Milton Keynes.

The standard being produced by the next generation continues to impress, with Logun Godbeer and Zachary Petty both recording excellent 85.89 averages.

Monday Round Robin

At Clandown, Darren Cox enjoyed an excellent evening to defeat Garreth Peat in the final. Darren produced an 85.89 average during his successful run and finished the night with seven victories.

Performance of the Day

Although there were several outstanding performances across the country, Josh McCarthy once again strengthened his position as one of the form players in the South West with another Vault title, while Andy Steed's return to winning ways in Paignton was another notable result.

Friday 10 July Results Round-Up – Shaun Vernall, Pete Hughes and C-Jay Pipe Among the Winners

 

Friday night brought another busy programme of ADC action across the South West, with packed fields, impressive averages and plenty of familiar names adding more silverware to their growing collections.

From Taunton and Gloucester to Evesham, Bodmin, Sturminster Newton and Yeovil, another excellent evening of grassroots darts produced plenty of quality performances as players continued their push towards the regional finals.

Shaun Vernall Claims Gloucester Honours

One of the standout performances came at Saintbridge Sports Club in Gloucester, where Shaun Vernall lifted another Vault 18 title.

Vernall defeated Will Jackson 3-0 in the final after another composed display. The Gloucestershire ace once again demonstrated why he remains one of the region's most consistent performers, recording the tournament's highest average of 85.89.

Pete Hughes Continues His Fine Form

Another player enjoying an outstanding spell is Pete Hughes, who added another title at The Bengeworth Club, Evesham.

Hughes defeated Darrel Williams 3-0 in the final and produced excellent averages of 97.50 and 91.53 during another superb evening. Mitchell Leeming and Danny Lauby also impressed in another high-quality Evesham field.

C-Jay Pipe Wins Strong Taunton Event

At the Pegasus 68 Club in Taunton, C-Jay Pipe came through a competitive field to defeat Ryan Greenslade 3-0 in the final.

Although Steve Boundy produced the night's highest average at the venue with a superb 100.20, Pipe showed excellent consistency throughout the competition to secure another important Vault victory.

Joshua Meneer Triumphs In Cornwall

The St Breward AFC & Social Club hosted another excellent Cornish Vault.

Joshua Meneer defeated Thomas Evans in the final to continue his impressive run of form, while Mark McGall topped the averages with 88.41 during the evening.

Rob Crocker Lifts Sturminster Title

At Sturminster Football Club, Rob Crocker defeated Steve Stone 3-1 in the final.

Nigel Edwards fired the highest average of the evening with 96.97, but Crocker's consistency proved decisive as he collected another Vault title.

Tom Yates Wins In Yeovil

The Friday night Vault at Bullets Sports Bar saw Tom Yates defeat Tom Pearce 3-1 in the final.

Steven Tavener impressed with the highest average of the night, but Yates held his nerve to claim the title after another competitive evening in Somerset.

• Reece Colley won another strong event at Bostin Darts 180 Bar, continuing his excellent recent run of results.
• Jack Seymour claimed victory at Sarisbury Green Social Club after defeating Pete Broomfield in the final.
• Warren Rixon won the latest Bridgwater Darts Academy Under-18 Series, continuing his excellent junior season.

Thursday produced another excellent evening of grassroots darts across the South West, with ADC Vault 18 events and Opens delivering plenty of quality performances, big averages and several familiar names lifting titles.

From Patchway and Stroud to Yeovil, Plymouth, Faringdon and Bournemouth, another busy night saw players battling for valuable Vault ranking points as the summer season gathered momentum.

Robbie Long Produces Huge Performance At Hangar61

One of the standout performances of the night came at Hangar61, Patchway, where Robbie Long claimed the Thursday Night Round Robin title.

Long defeated Lewis Kendall 3-1 in the final, producing a magnificent 107.36 average against Jacob Godber earlier in the evening before following it up with another outstanding 98.02 average against recent Hangar61 champion John Brown.

Lewis Kendall continued his impressive recent run by reaching another final, while Matt Jackson and Chris Williams were also among the players making deep runs.

Josh McCarthy Wins Strong Stroud Vault

A competitive field assembled at The Carlton Club, Stroud, where Josh McCarthy edged Cori Wiltshire 3-2 in an excellent final.

McCarthy produced one of the performances of the evening with a superb 105.86 average, while Cori Wiltshire continued his excellent recent form with averages of 95.49 and 89.25. Lee Andrews also featured among the leading performers in another high-quality Gloucestershire event.

Liam Blakeley Stuns Henry Cooper

At Yeovil Labour Club, Liam Blakeley produced arguably the performance of the South West evening.

Blakeley defeated the in-form Henry Cooper 3-0 in the final, firing a brilliant 107.36 average. Cooper still impressed with averages of 94.57 and 90.93, while Matt Yarrow also topped the century mark with 102.48 earlier in the competition.

Ricky King Continues His Fine Form

Another familiar winner emerged at The Kings Arms, Wallisdown, where Ricky King defeated Jayden Walker 3-1 in the final.

Walker posted the event's highest average of 96.04, but King's consistency across the evening earned him another impressive Vault title.

Scott Lawrey Claims Plymouth Success

The Legends Lounge in Plymouth hosted another competitive Vault event.

Scott Lawrey edged Sean Taylor 3-2 in the final after both players enjoyed excellent evenings, while Darren Pearce and Aiden Stenson also featured among the strongest performers.

Sam Jackson Wins At Faringdon

At Faringdon Football Club, Sam Jackson lifted the title after defeating Mac Goves 3-1 in the final.

Gary Court once again demonstrated his scoring power with the highest average of the evening at 93.94, but Jackson proved the most consistent performer over the course of the tournament.

Another excellent night of grassroots darts showed once again the strength of the South West scene, with several players producing outstanding performances as the race for Vault ranking points continues.

Yesterday's Results – Wednesday 8 July

 

Wednesday evening saw another busy night of grassroots darts across the South West, with ADC Vault 18 events producing plenty of quality performances and several familiar names adding another title to their growing collections.

At The Sartan Club in Bishopsworth, Mervyn Adams produced one of his best performances of recent weeks, edging past Ellis Radford 3-2 in an entertaining final. Radford continued his impressive run of form, while Ryan Palmer, Darren Davies and Connor Davies were all among the players reaching the latter stages. Adrian Wood also fired the highest average of the evening with an excellent 103.66.

Over at Hangar61, Patchway, John Brown enjoyed a superb evening, defeating Cori Wiltshire in the final and producing one of the performances of the night with a magnificent 104.86 average. Robbie Long also impressed during another competitive Bristol event.

There was another strong Gloucestershire event at Magpies Social Club, Stonehouse, where Joshua Lewis lifted the title after defeating Mitch McCarthy in the final. Lewis also produced a 100.20 average during his run and Shaun Vernall once again featured among the strongest performers.

Further south, Andy Steed claimed another ADC Vault title in Exeter, while Henry Cooper continued his excellent season with victory at Stalbridge RBL after overcoming Nigel Edwards in the final. Both players continue to strengthen their credentials as two of the South West's most consistent performers.

Elsewhere, Danny Humphries won in Salisbury, Tom Crocker lifted the title in Christchurch, Kian Gover came out on top in Ilfracombe and Dave Fisher won the Pawlett Pavilion Grand Prix in Somerset after another competitive night of local darts.

The overall standard was once again exceptionally high, with several players breaking the 100-average barrier across the country, while South West events continued to produce competitive fields and plenty of quality performances.

Johnny Haines Continues His Excellent Season

One of the standout performances came at Faringdon Football Club, where Johnny Haines claimed another Vault 18 title.

Haines defeated Gary Court 3-1 in the final after another high-quality evening. Both players impressed throughout the event, with Gary Court recording a 96.97 average, while Haines produced excellent averages of 95.12, 92.02 and 85.08 on his way to the title.

Pete Hughes Too Strong In Evesham

At Bretforton Sports Club, Pete Hughes produced one of the performances of the night.

He defeated Callum Weaver 3-0 in the final and fired in superb averages of 96.97, 95.94 and 93.94 during an outstanding tournament.

American professional Danny Lauby also featured among the top averages, underlining the strength of the Evesham event.

Neil Meneer Wins Cornwall Showdown

The Indian Queens Working Men's Club hosted another strong Vault event.

Neil Meneer edged Gareth Griffiths 3-1 in the final after both players produced outstanding darts. Each recorded 96.97 averages, making this one of the highest-quality finals of the evening.

Luke Cottrell Triumphs In Tiverton

The Tiverton Vault attracted another competitive field.

Luke Cottrell came through to defeat Freddie Davey 3-2 in the final, while Andy Steed once again featured among the leading performers with another consistent evening.

Leighton Cox Wins In Chard

At The Choughs Hotel, Leighton Cox lifted the title after defeating Darren Herbert 3-1 in the final.

Leighton also posted the event's highest average of 95.94, rounding off an excellent night's work.

Matthew Reddy Claims Bristol Vault

The Bristol Vault at Bessellscotts saw Matthew Reddy defeat Justin Lobb in the final.

Although it was a smaller field, Reddy completed a perfect evening to take another Vault title and valuable ranking points.

Portland Produces Another Strong Event

At Portland Social Club, Matt Yarrow lifted the title with victory over James Hayes.

Meanwhile, Alfie Yarrow produced several excellent performances during the evening, including a highest average of 91.09.

DartAsylum Round Robin

The weekly DartAsylum HQ Under-70 Round Robin once again produced a competitive evening.

Tommy Sperring defeated James Wintle-McKay 4-2 in the final, while Collis Palmer topped the averages with an impressive 85.89.

Monday night's action produced another packed evening of grassroots darts across the South West, with ADC Vault 18 events once again attracting strong fields and some outstanding performances.

From Paignton, Barnstaple, Calne, Salisbury, Minehead and Didcot to the latest action in Evesham, players continued to produce impressive displays as the summer darts calendar gathers momentum.

Andy Steed Continues His Outstanding Form

Andy Steed's excellent run continued at Vault 18 in Paignton, where he defeated Luke Grantham 3-0 in the final.

Steed recorded a tournament-high 93.94 average on two occasions and never looked far from top gear throughout the evening. His consistency continues to make him one of the form players in the South West.

Johnny Haines Lifts The Didcot Title

Another player enjoying an excellent spell is Johnny Haines, who claimed the Didcot Vault 18 title.

Haines defeated Roger Crook 3-1 in the final after producing several excellent performances, including averages of 96.97 and 93.94. Another impressive evening adds to an already strong season.

Rich Griffee Wins In Calne

One of the strongest fields of the night assembled at the North Star Club, Calne.

Rich Griffee edged Samuel King 3-2 in an entertaining final, while Gary Hiscock produced two of the night's best individual averages with 93.94 and 91.09 before falling in the semi-finals. The quality on show demonstrated once again why the Calne Vault continues to attract some of the region's strongest players.

Kian Gover Takes Barnstaple Honours

In North Devon, Kian Gover lifted the Barnstaple Vault title with a 3-1 victory over Sam Chance.

Neil Ridd posted the highest average of the evening, but Gover's consistency throughout the knockout stages proved decisive as he secured another excellent tournament victory.

Danny Humphries Triumphs In Salisbury

At Stratford Social Club, Danny Humphries came through another competitive field to defeat Shoey Ayres 3-2 in the final.

Humphries topped the averages with a best of 90.18 and continued his recent good form with another impressive Vault title.

Minehead Produces Big Scoring

One of the biggest averages of the South West evening came at The Banckers Draught, Minehead, where David Farmer fired in a superb 107.36 average.

Although he didn't win the tournament, his scoring was one of the standout individual performances of the night, while Jack Walker claimed the title after defeating Taylor Foster in the final.

Evesham Delivers More Quality

The Bengeworth Vault again produced an excellent standard of darts.

Rhys Jackson defeated Pete Hughes in the final, but it was American professional Danny Lauby who grabbed the headlines statistically with a huge 107.36 average during the evening.

Andy Steed Continues Outstanding Season

One of the standout performances came at The Queens Arms, Taunton, where Andy Steed claimed another ADC Vault 18 title.

Steed defeated Jack Bellingham 3-0 in the final, producing averages of 93.94 and 92.02 during another commanding display. Jack Bellingham also impressed throughout the day with two 91+ averages as both players underlined their quality.

Ben Dean Wins Strong Gloucester Vault

Another excellent field assembled at Matson Rugby Club in Gloucester.

Ben Dean lifted the title after defeating Dave Legg 3-1 in the final, but one of the biggest stories came from Shaun Vernall, who produced sensational averages of 107.36, 103.66 and 96.97 during the competition.

Although Vernall fell short of the title, his scoring once again demonstrated why he remains one of the region's most dangerous players.

Henry Cooper Maintains Superb Run

Henry Cooper continued his remarkable consistency at Shaftesbury Football Club.

While the final result wasn't available in the exported data, Cooper once again featured among the tournament's leading performers, recording a highest average of 96.97 and finishing among the day's top winners. His excellent run of form shows no sign of slowing down.

Pete Hughes Fires In Redditch

Pete Hughes produced one of the performances of the day at Abbeydale Social Club.

He defeated Tom Garfield 3-0 in the final while recording a magnificent 118.66 average, one of the highest seen anywhere in the Q4QS database this season. It was an outstanding display from the Redditch player.

Neil Wild Wins High-Quality Evesham Event

The 501 Round Robin Contender Board at Evesham produced some extraordinary scoring.

Neil Wild edged Joe Quiney 4-3 in a superb final, with both players producing incredible averages throughout the tournament.

Joe Quiney topped the averages with 125.25 and 120.05, while Neil Wild responded with 119.55 and 115.71 during one of the highest-quality local competitions of the weekend.
