Wednesday 12 August produced another huge night of grassroots darts, with 54 tournaments added to the Q4QS database.
The South West supplied plenty of the night's stories. Jack Nankervis combined a tournament victory with a 100+ average in Bodmin, Andy Steed won Week 6 of the Pawlett Pavilion Grand Prix, Jack Walker impressed at Stonehouse, Robbie Martin continued his winning form at Stalbridge and Zach Quinn came through a competitive night at the Sartan Club in Bristol.
And while they didn't all end up with the trophy, there were some seriously impressive individual performances too.
Nankervis Produces the Complete Performance in Bodmin
One of the performances of the night came from Jack Nankervis at Bodmin Band & Social Club.
Nankervis took the Vault 18 title with a 3–1 final victory over Jamie Kay, completing a night in which he recorded eight wins.
Perhaps more impressively, he produced a 100.04 average against Kev Dunstan and also registered 96.97 earlier in the competition.
Dunstan actually produced the highest average of the tournament with 101.93, making Nankervis' eventual victory over him even more noteworthy.
Andy Steed Takes Pawlett Grand Prix Week 6
At Burnham & Highbridge Darts, Andy Steed came through a busy Pawlett Pavilion Grand Prix to take the Week 6 title.
Steed finished with nine wins, the most recorded by any player at the event, and beat Paul Griffiths in the final.
He also produced some strong numbers along the way, including an 88.79 average, while Kieran Spurdle topped the night's averages there with 93.94.
Walker Dominates at Stonehouse
There was an excellent night for Jack Walker at Magpies Social Club in Stonehouse.
Walker defeated Lee Bradley 3–0 in the final, but it was the manner of his run which particularly caught the eye.
His recorded averages included 92.02, 83.50, 77.74 and 77.08, and he finished with seven victories.
It was a strong combination of consistency and results from Walker, with Bradley himself enjoying a good night with six wins.
Robbie Martin Wins Again at Stalbridge
Robbie Martin continued to underline his recent form by winning at Stalbridge RBL.
Martin defeated Matt Yarrow 3–2 in the final and accumulated eight wins across the tournament.
However, the standout individual average at Stalbridge belonged to Alfie Yarrow, who fired in a superb 103.66. Yarrow also produced two separate 91.09 averages during the event.
Martin's best listed performance was an 88.75 in the final.
Zach Quinn Comes Through at the Sartan Club
There was another competitive Vault 18 night at the Sartan Club in Bishopsworth, where Zach Quinn emerged victorious.
Quinn beat Ellis Radford 3–2 in the final and finished with seven wins.
Radford had earlier beaten Quinn and recorded an 88.41 average, while Ryan Palmer hit 87.27. But when the title was on the line, Quinn reversed the earlier result, averaging 83.63 in the final to take the trophy.
McCready Wins a High-Quality Leominster Event
Alec McCready was the winner at Shooters Bar in Leominster, defeating Chris Hurds 3–2 in the final.
Both finalists also broke the 100 mark during the tournament.
Hurds produced 100.20 against Zach Boardman, while McCready matched that exact figure against Clayton Johnston.
McCready eventually finished with eight victories to Hurds' seven, making this one of Wednesday's stronger-looking events on the numbers available.
Alfie Yarrow Heads the South West Standouts
Away from the tournament winners, Alfie Yarrow's 103.66 at Stalbridge was one of the best performances recorded in the region.
Kev Dunstan's 101.93 at Bodmin was another major highlight, while Carl McFarlane broke three figures with a 100.20 at Galaxy Sports Bar in Torquay. McFarlane's big number came on a night eventually won by Harry Madge.
There was also that 100.20 apiece from Chris Hurds and Alec McCready at Leominster.
It meant Wednesday wasn't simply a busy night in terms of tournament numbers – there was plenty of quality being produced as well.
Under-55 Action
The Wednesday Night Under-55 Average competition was won by Jack Kempster, who defeated Karl Aldom in the final.
Kempster accumulated eight wins across the night, while Aldom recorded five. Alfie Miller produced the competition's highest listed average at 73.32.
These restricted-average competitions remain particularly interesting to follow because they give another group of players regular competitive tournament darts – and, as the database continues to grow, we're increasingly able to follow their form alongside players competing in open events.
Three Players Hit 111.33
Looking beyond the South West, the highest figure of the entire day's data was remarkably shared by three players.
Allan Way, Kai Clark and Lee Evans all recorded 111.33 averages, while Evans backed his up with another huge 105.74.
Bryan Flew produced 104.86 and 103.66, with Ryan Walsh, Daniel Varney and Alfie Yarrow also recording 103.66.
As always, these are individual match averages rather than tournament averages, but they provide a fascinating snapshot of some of the best darts being played around the grassroots scene.
Another 54 Tournaments Added
Wednesday's 54 tournaments add another substantial chunk of results to Q4QS.
The individual winners matter, but the bigger picture becomes increasingly interesting as the database grows.
Repeated tournament wins, sustained runs of form, improving players and strong performances at different venues all start to become visible.
And Wednesday provided a little bit of everything: Nankervis winning with big numbers, Steed collecting nine wins, Walker dominating at Stonehouse, Martin continuing his form and Quinn coming through another competitive Bristol field.
