Friday brought another busy night of grassroots darts, with 40 tournaments added to the Q4QS database. There was plenty happening across the South West in particular, with titles in Taunton, Gloucester, Portishead, Sturminster and Evesham, while several eye-catching averages were recorded around the country.
The performance of the night came from C-Jay Pipe in Taunton, while Ricky King continued his excellent week and there were victories for Shaun Vernall, Steve Boundy and Pete Hughes.
C-Jay Pipe produces a huge night in Taunton
The standout performance came at Pegasus 68 Club in Taunton, where C-Jay Pipe was in superb form.
Pipe won all eight of his recorded matches and defeated Paul Gardiner 3–0 in the final, but it was the level of his scoring that really caught the eye.
He produced a 107.36 average against John Ellis, followed that with a 102.48 in the final, and also recorded a 93.94 during his run.
The 107.36 was the highest individual average recorded across all 40 tournaments on Friday.
That's a serious night's work.
Ricky King continues his strong run
Another player enjoying a particularly good spell is Ricky King.
Having won at The Kings Arms in Wallisdown on Thursday, King followed it up with another title on Friday at Sturminster Football Club.
He defeated Callum Harrison 3–0 in the final, having earlier produced averages of 93.94 and 93.52, the latter coming in a 3–1 win over Jordan Cluskey.
Cluskey produced the biggest average of the tournament with an excellent 100.20, but it was King who took the title with eight wins on the night.
Back-to-back titles across two different venues makes King one of the standout performers of the last couple of days.
Vernall takes the Saintbridge title
At Saintbridge Sports Club in Gloucester, Shaun Vernall took the honours with a 3–1 final victory over Rory Pearce.
Vernall also produced an 85.50 during the knockout stages, while James Smith recorded an excellent 95.88, the highest average of the tournament.
Saintbridge continues to produce competitive fields and this was another strong night of darts in Gloucester.
Boundy wins in Portishead
There was another South West victory at Portishead Workmen's, where Steve Boundy came through to take the Friday title.
Boundy defeated Daniel Kear 3–2 in the final and finished the competition with seven wins.
Brogan Bayford produced the best average of the tournament with an 88.41, while finalist Kear hit an 83.50.
Pete Hughes wins again at Bengeworth
Pete Hughes is another name that keeps appearing in these roundups.
After winning at The Cue Corner in Worcester on Thursday, Hughes made it two titles in two days, this time at The Bengeworth in Evesham.
He beat Richard Coombes 3–2 in the final, while Steve Sewell produced the evening's highest average at the venue with a 93.38. Coombes also enjoyed an impressive night, recording seven wins and an 88.41 along the way.
Like Ricky King, Hughes is putting together a very impressive few days.
More ton-plus averages
Pipe's 107.36 led the way, but he certainly wasn't alone in breaking three figures.
Llew Bevan recorded a 103.66 at Min-Y-Ddol in Aberystwyth, while Timothy Jones matched that 103.66 at Briton Ferry.
Jordan Cluskey, Steve Dennett and Gary Davies all recorded 100.20 averages, while Pipe himself had his second ton-plus performance of the evening with 102.48.
Jane Price takes the WADC title
The WADC Vault at The Bengeworth went to Jane Price, who defeated Tammy Jones 3–1 in the final.
Price recorded five wins during the tournament and produced her best average of the competition in the final, hitting 65.08.
There was also some impressive WADC action at Briton Ferry, where Eve Watson produced a 91.09 average – a particularly eye-catching performance from Friday's women's events.
Junior action continues
The JDC VOLTS Series continued at the Simeon Arms in Ryde, where Mitchel Hunt defeated Brendan O'Reilly 3–1 in the final.
Hunt recorded seven victories on his way to the title, while Archie Isaacson produced the tournament's best recorded average at 81.24.
Plenty more winners
There were plenty of other notable results across Friday.
Alec Small produced a 96.97 on his way to victory at Wattsville National Club, Kyle Weatherley won at Bushey with a best of 95.94, while Shane Turner, Chris Connell, Jamie Grant, Stephen Cake, Logan Anderson, Matt Dennant and Callum Grealis were among the other Vault winners recorded during the evening.
But from a South West perspective, Friday belonged particularly to C-Jay Pipe. An eight-win title run featuring averages of 107.36, 102.48 and 93.94 is an outstanding set of numbers and comfortably earns the headline from another packed night of grassroots darts.
